Start-up technology companies — where to begin?
In this special feature, we give advice to entrepreneurs and start-up companies on the following issues:
– where to turn to for finance
– the options when it comes to IT deployment
– what help is available

Computer-aided design
From advice on professional packages to sourcing contractors, we advice Irish companies on the best means to secure and deploy CAD solutions.

Web hosting and development
Irish companies now seek ever-more sophisticated services from their hosting and web development companies. We look at what Irish companies should be doing and discuss the different ways they can achieve it.

Enterprise content management
Enterprises continue to look for more efficient, better value ways of organising and structuring their information. Where should they turn? We look at the newest technologies and ask whether they’re worth the investment.

Buyers guide to laptops and UMPCs
From the desktop replacement powerhouses to the ultra-portable carry-ons, our review guide will cover the best of today’s laptops and advise business users what to look for.

Project management
Deciding on an infrastructural migration and delivering it are two different things. There are firms out there that can manage the whole process painlessly as a standalone project. We show why this can be a blessing.

Security: Anti-virus technology
Protecting your company’s vital network assets and data has never been more important, with the gradual switch over to total digital content in Irish industry. We show you what the threats are and how to protect against them.

Icon guide to MP3 players
A look at the newest consumer models.

(The lack of) recent postings

Wednesday, April 9th, 2008

Apologies folks for the lack of updates on the blog. In hindsight I think fronting the site with a blog was not the right option, I simply don’t have time during the day to maintain it and the fact I’m not on the editorial team I don’t really have access to press releases and other news. I will be redesigning, maybe from scratch, over the coming weeks, so check back soon. In the meantime, the features for May will be posted after this one.

Cheers,

Mark.

Article and feature suggestions - Speak your mind!

Tuesday, July 24th, 2007

Hi folks! I’m looking for article suggestions for the coming months and beyond, articles that you, the readers want to see in Computers in Business. As we don’t print an August issue it’s an ideal time to put a bit of thought into the year ahead. I’m not promising anything, basically because I can’t, I’m not the editor - I can only suggest the topics but any feedback would be welcome. I personally want to see an article on business blogging and how companies are using social networking in a business capacity, so take that as being high on the list. What advancing and emerging technologies should Irish businesses be aware of? What are the technology challenges facing companies over the coming years?

Outside of the specific articles, are there elements within the magazine that we can improve on or even add new elements - buyers guides? technology classifieds?

All feedback, good and bad, will be taken on board.

Cheers,

Mark.

24 hours done and still alive

Tuesday, July 17th, 2007

The first day of our new blog and apart from knowing 402 things I didn’t know about blogging yesterday, things are good. I want to say a big thanks to Michele for his help, a lot of interesting and important pointers were given - Thank you very much indeed. There’s a lot more tweaking to do but I do feel the site is taking shape, I hope you agree. Again, if there is any info you feel I could do with knowing please leave a comment.

Welcome to our new blog

Monday, July 16th, 2007

In the coming days, weeks, months and dare I say years, I hope to establish this blog as a place of information and discussion to do with all things IT related. Not only in Ireland but around the world. The goal is to achieve a better understanding of the business issues that are being and need to be discussed within our newspaper, supplements and magazines. I’m new to the blogging scene and hope that, through help and advice from the blogging community, I can make computersinbusiness.com the platform it deserves to be.

Thanks and feel free to comment,

Mark Webster
